Google announced on Thursday 29th October that it is venturing into the lead generation business:
“Today we’re excited to begin testing a new feature of AdWords called AdWords Comparison Ads, which lets users compare multiple, relevant offers more easily. Comparison Ads is part of our continuing effort to make ads more relevant and useful to our users and to help you, our advertisers, reach the people who are most interested in your products and services.”
Its new venture named Adwords Comparison Ads aims to provide users with mortgage rate comparisons being offered by numerous providers. The service returns results based on the price of the home, credit rating, deposit and location.
Although this is likely to be well received by the consumer given the targetted nature of the ads, it’s likely to receive criticism from Adwords customers and those companies who invest heavily in search engine optimisation.

So far it’s only available in select areas of the US but if it’s good for Google then it’s likely to be rolled out to other markets and a wider audience. Watch this space…

Are Google now getting too big? Is there any area of the internet that they are not muscling in on? Just the other day it was annouced that Google was going to provide free Sat Nav software on the Android platform. As a result the value of companies such as Tom Tom and Garmin were slashed. Will we start seeing comapanies live Moneysupermarket suffering going forward. I hope Google can stick with its own mantra ‘Don’t be Evil’ – at the end of the day a lot of the companies they are competing with are also some of Googles biggest clients.
